One person died and another was taken to the hospital following a car accident on Highway 12 Tuesday afternoon.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim of the crash as Marilyn Elaine Thompson, 69, of Columbus. Thompson was driving west in a Toyota Camry just before 4 p.m. when she collided head-on with a Honda Pilot traveling east, according to a Mississippi Highway Patrol press release. Thompson died at the scene.
The accident occurred east of Caledonia-Steens Road.
The driver of the Honda, Latasha A. Baker, 35, of Caledonia, was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with moderate injuries, the release said.
MHP is investigating the crash.
