Two people died Friday morning from injuries sustained in separate car accidents in Lowndes County.
On Thursday evening, Daryl Smith, 71, was involved in a car accident on Highway 12. He died Friday morning at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
Also on Friday morning, Starkville resident Myra G. May, 64, died after the vehicle she was driving collided with another vehicle on Highway 45 North. Merchant pronounced May dead at the scene, and an ambulance took the driver of the other vehicle to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with moderate injuries, according to a press release from Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Columbus Police Department is investigating the crash on Highway 12, while MHP is investigating the crash on Highway 45.
