An 81-year-old Ackerman man died in a car crash while driving the wrong way on Highway 25 on Tuesday.
Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt identified the victim as Roger Hayes. Hayes was driving south in the northbound lanes at 9:30 p.m. when he collided with another vehicle. He died at the scene.
The headlights of Hayes’ vehicle were off and he was not wearing a seatbelt, Hunt said. No one else was in the car.
One of the two people in the other vehicle was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center and later to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, and is in serious but stable condition, Hunt said. The other person had non life-threatening injuries.
Hunt added authorities suspect alcohol may have been involved in the crash.
