A West Point woman has been charged with felony child abuse following the death of her infant.
Deputies with Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Courtney Fitzgerald, 28, on Tuesday.
Officials did not release many details, but Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott confirmed the victim was Fitzgerald’s 6-month-old child. He said there were traces of methamphetamine in the child’s system.
Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter declined to identify the child and referred all questions to CCSO.
Investigators are expecting to make additional arrests in the case, according to a CCSO press release. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call CCSO at 662-494-2896 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151.
Fitzgerald is being held in Clay County Jail on $100,000 bond.
