One man is dead and police are searching for the suspect in a fatal shooting in West Point Monday evening.
Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter identified the victim as Jamel Banks, 40, and said he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers with West Point Police Department responded to a call about the shooting on Lowe Street, east of Division Street, at about 5:35 p.m., according to information posted to WPPD’s Facebook page.
WPPD Chief Avery Cook did not return calls from The Dispatch by press time.
Carter said Banks’ body is on the way to the state crime lab in Pearl for autopsy. His office, along with WPPD and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, are investigating the shooting.
