CALEDONIA — Caledonia aldermen will hold a special public meeting Tuesday to discuss and approve a 2010-11 budget for the town.
The proposed budget anticipates $336,605 in revenue, about $20,700 more than the town received last year, and $271,841 in expenses.
The millage rate is expected to remain at 7.42, aldermen said at their regular meeting Tuesday.
The expected increase in revenue is largely due to Ola J. Pickett Park, which is expected to pull in about $15,000 in concessions, sports registration fees and sponsorships, said Mayor George Gerhart.
The town is also seeking $15,000 from the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors for capital improvements to the park this fiscal year.
However, because the county budget is tighter this year, Caledonia could see their funding cut, said District 1 Supervisor and Board President Harry Sanders, who attended the meeting.
Also, because more people have moved within the city limits, revenue from property taxes and car taxes has increased by $5,000 from 2009-10, bringing revenue flow from personal and privilege taxes up to $110,000.
While Aldermen expect revenue to increase, they also expect expenses to be $42,659 less than last year after finishing several park improvement projects.
The balance of the town”s budget was $555,872 as of Sept. 4.
Aldermen also discussed across-the-board raises for town employees Tuesday, but made no decision.
The public budget meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall.
