International Paper Company Foundation and International Paper’s Columbus Pulp Mill and Columbus Modified Fiber facilities awarded $70,000 in grants to 25 area educational and non-profit groups in 2019.
International Paper’s giving strategy focuses on critical community needs where employees live and work. Grants were awarded in the Signature Cause categories of education, hunger, health and wellness, disaster recovery and community initiatives. International Paper also supports a number of organizations where employees actively volunteer and other critical community needs. Recipients of the 2019 International Paper Foundation grants are as follows:
Health and wellness, including hunger
$19,000 was awarded to family and childhood health and wellness programs.
■ Boys & Girls Club of the Golden Triangle received funds for its Triple Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body, and Soul program.
■ Columbus-Lowndes Free Medical Clinic received funds to purchase diagnostic monitoring supplies to service diabetic patients.
■ Contact Helpline received funding for its Volunteer & Reassurance Recruitment program.
■ Frank P. Phillips Memorial YMCA received funds to support its Adaptive Fitness program.
■ Pushmataha Area Council Boy Scouts of America received funds to support its 2019 Camp Seminole 5K Glow Run and 1 Mile Fun Run.
■ Sally Kate Winters Family Service received funds to for its Therapeutic Mental Health Services program.
■ The Father’s Child Ministry received funding for their Manhood Camp.
Education
$21,765 was awarded to educational initiatives including literacy programs, skills training projection, classroom technology and more!
■ Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System received funds to support its Family Place Library program.
■ Cook Elementary School Fine Arts Magnet School received funds for its Animated Learning project.
■ Columbus-Lowndes Excel by 5 Coalition received funds to support its ECET2 Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teachers and Teaching program.
■ FORGE Foundation received funds to support 2019-2020 in-school programs.
■ Girl Scouts Heart of the South received funds to support Girl Scouting in The School Day.
■ Greater Starkville Development Partnership received funds to host its Annual International Paper Innovation Challenge.
■ Heritage Academy received funds to support its Read, Lead & Succeed program.
■ Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum received funds for its Celebrating America’s Industrial Revolution 1870-1914 Exhibit.
■ Mississippi University for Women received funds for to support its Go React program.
■ Progressive Foundation of Clay County received funds for its Third Grade Gate Reading Tutorial Program.
Hunger
$11,500 was given to support the fight against hunger.
■ Extra Table received funds to purchase food for its Neighbors Feeding Neighbors program in partnership with the Bread of Life Food Pantry.
■ Loaves & Fishes Community Soup Kitchen received funding to purchase a commercial grade deep freezer.
■ The Salvation Army of Columbus received funds to purchase food for its Food Pantry.
Disaster Relief
$13,000 was given to support disaster relief and recovery efforts in the community.
■ Community Recovery of Lowndes County received funds to support its Long Term Disaster Recovery program.
■ United Way of Lowndes County received funding for disaster recovery and beautification project.
Critical Community Needs
$4,735 was given to support critical community needs throughout the Golden Triangle.
■ Columbus-Lowndes Habitat for Humanity received funds for its Critical Home Repair program.
■ Lowndes County Council on Aging received funds to purchase a new office computer.
■ Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity received funds for the construction of its 2019 Maroon Edition home.
■ United Way of Lowndes County received funds to support its Volunteer Columbus program.
