STARKVILLE — A local man is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase and wrecking his vehicle Thursday afternoon.
George Lucious III, 19, is charged with failure to stop a motor vehicle when an officer signals, a felony, as well as misdemeanor reckless driving, following the incident that started about 3:10 p.m. on the south part of the city.
A Starkville police officer observed Lucious speeding on Louisville Street in a Lincoln SUV and attempted to stop him. Lucious continued east on Poorhouse Road, through South Montgomery Street, according to a SPD press release.
A short distance past the South Montgomery intersection, Lucious’ vehicle left the roadway and collided with some trees. Then the suspect exited the vehicle and surrendered, the press release said.
Lucious is being held in Oktibbeha County Jail. His bond has not yet been set.
