Police seek persons of interest in Friday shooting

Columbus police have identified a person of interest in a Friday night shooting that sent one man to the hospital.

 

According to CPD Chief Fred Shelton, police responded to a shooting report at 8:10 p.m. at the victim's residence on the 900 block of 20th Street North.

 

The victim, identified only as a male in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, then airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he underwent surgery. Shelton said the man was in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.

 

 

Shelton said he believes the victim knew the shooter.

 

"We have identified one person of interest and are looking for another person, but no arrests have been made at this point in the investigation," Shelton said.
