Businesses are moving forward and opening their doors.
With Gov. Tate Reeves reducing restaurant restrictions, we have some hometown eateries opening their dining areas to the public at half capacity over the next week.
Some Golden Triangle favorites — The Grill, Harvey’s Sweet Peppers Deli and Bulldog Burger — all will open in-house seating Monday, giving the staff enough time to sanitize and prepare for the customers they’ve missed.
Zachary’s owner, Doug Pellum said he’s not opening the dining area until at least Monday. After suffering from a restaurant fire more than a year ago, Pellum reopened this week and is offering its full menu for to-go orders.
One of Starkville’s go-tos, 1883 Smokehouse, will open today for indoor seating and will even have the restaurant’s famous salad bar, which will be manned by 1883 employees with masks and gloves, available from 4 p.m. to close Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Get your Cajun tastebuds ready because Oby’s will be serving up po-boys in-house starting today.
Ty Thames of Eat Local Starkville said Restaurant Tyler, Bin 612 and The Guest Room will reopen their dining areas starting Friday.
We’ve also got West Point news! No Way Jose in West Point opened at its new location this month at 6715 US 45 Alt., the former Cathy’s restaurant.
The new location opening comes just in time to celebrate Siete De Mayo! No Way Jose in Starkville and West Point are both opening their dining areas for customers to dine in today, just a few days past Cinco De Mayo.
With businesses and restaurants starting to open their doors, it’s time to give back. I’ve seen posts on social media, I’ve heard it on the phone and it’s true. It’s time to support the sponsors of our children’s soccer teams, the person who sits on your pew at church, the business on the corner of Main Street with a new owner. It’s just simply time to give back to those who have always supported us.
Slowly and surely, businesses will be back.
Good news for Columbus folks, Belk also is reopening Friday. The department store closed in mid-March due to COVID-19, but the North Carolina-based company is opening the Columbus store’s doors!
Belk will have limited hours for the time being, so enjoy safe-shopping from noon-6 p.m. If you’re not comfortable roaming the aisles of Belk, be sure to take advantage of curbside service the store now offers!
Dick’s Sporting Goods in Columbus is also open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
Crafters galore, Hobby Lobby in Leigh Mall reopened last week. And the shopping news boom continues with the Columbus and Starkville Tuesday Morning stores reopening as well.
I’ve seen pleas on Facebook, I’ve received calls and messages from plenty of folks, but unfortunately it appears crowd favorite TJ Maxx still remains closed. TJX Companies CEO Ernie Herrman announced in a press release Saturday that the stores are preparing to open, but the Columbus location remains closed for the time being.
