One person is in custody and investigators are searching for two more for their involvement in a shooting at McDonald’s in East Columbus on Christmas Eve.
Antwan Roland, 18, of Columbus, has been charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied building, Police Chief Fred Shelton said. Investigators identified and are seeking two other suspects in the shooting as Jaylin Da’Shawn Hodges, 16 — who will be charged as an adult — and Tyrei Romelle Johnson, 22, both of Columbus. Hodges is wanted for aggravated assault and shooting into a dwelling, while Johnson is wanted for questioning and traffic violations.
The suspects are accused of firing shots from the window of a vehicle at the side of the McDonald’s on Alabama Street shortly before midnight on Christmas Eve. According to a CPD press release issued last week, the individuals became involved in an argument over payment with McDonald’s employees, left the drive-through line and shot at the building.
One employee was injured by shattered glass when one of the shots broke a window.
Shelton credited the public with helping identify the suspects in the case.
“The public is always our best eyes and ears, and they located the car,” Shelton said. “We ask for help in locating Jaylin Hodges and Tyrei Johnson. Call us at Crime Stoppers (at 800-530-7151) or text us anonymously with the P3 app.”
Roland is in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
