One person has died and another is injured after a shooting in South Columbus Wednesday night.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as Frank Edwards, 20, of Columbus. Edwards was visiting friends on 12th Avenue South and was shot in the front yard following an argument with two people in a vehicle, Merchant and Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said.
Another man outside the car was shot and treated for his injuries and released from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Shelton said. The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m., according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
CPD investigators are still searching for the suspects in the shooting, the release said. The driver of the car, a small four-door Mazda, is described as a “heavy-set” African American male, the release said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or use the P3 phone application to send a tip to CPD.
