Doves were released on Monday at Union Cemetery after the funeral of Traveres R. Malone Jr., held at Lee Middle School.
“We”re going to miss him, miss his smile and miss his laughter,” said the Rev. David Malone during the eulogy.
Malone, nicknamed “Speedy,” was only 12 when he died Wednesday at University Medical Center in Jackson. His 13th birthday would have been Dec. 28, a week from today.
The son of Kim Moore and Traveres Malone Sr., had suffered heart problems his entire life and was waiting on a transplant. Having been born missing a chamber in his heart, and already survived open-heart surgery and three intensive care visits this year, he had attended Hunt Intermediate School, when his condition worsened and required a homebound teacher.
“He was just a sweet kid,” said Lawanda Merchant. “He was best friends with my daughter, Jashun Taylor. It was too hard for her to come today.”
Services were conducted by the Rev. David Malone, Pastor James Malone, and Elder Casey Bush.
Many tears were shed by family and friends as they shared memories of Traveres Malone. Sonya Clark sang.
“My son, my son, I love you so … I don”t understand why you had to go. I don”t understand why God called you home, and now my heart feels all alone,” said Moore in a tribute. “I will always remember your smiling face … You have been a blessing to me in each and every way. … (He) fought a good fight. (He”s) gone forever but never (will be) forgotten.”
His father said. “I can”t tell you … how many tears I”ve cried since the day I was told my oldest son was gone. It seems impossible although I know it”s true because everything I see reminds me of (him).”
De”Asia Jones left a heartfelt tribute to her friend. “It”s so hard to see you go. I cared for you… my little buddy and friend. You”re in a better place now, You don”t have to suffer anymore.”
