STARKVILLE — A Columbus man was arrested and charged with shoplifting recently for allegedly stealing a pair of boots and a coat from the Oktibbeha County Co-Op.
On Jan. 3, a man entered the Co-Op at 201 Pollard Road, put on a pair of boots and exited the store without paying. The same suspect came back to the Co-Op on Jan. 11, put on a Carhart coat and again exited the store without paying, police said.
The suspect, later identified as William “Pookie” Scott, 29, of 849 Yorkville Road E., was caught on video during both incidents. Police released the surveillance video to WCBI and a citizen contacted Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers with a tip. The information provided by the caller led to the apprehension and arrest of Scott on a charge of shoplifting.
Scott was transported to Clay County Jail and has since been released on a $2,000 bond.
