Lillie Frances Burks Daniel, age 84, of Columbus, MS, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018, at her residence. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, November 16, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Dale Stafford officiating and with interment to follow at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Daniel was born on November 22, 1933, in Hamilton, MS, to the late Hollis Meriam and Lucile Virginia Crocker Burks. She retired from Kerr Magee. Mrs. Daniel was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the UMW ladies group and regularly attended bible study. She had also attended Wesley United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved her family immensely and was very active with several musical organizations, such as the R.S.V.P. Band and the Friendly City Dulcimer Club. Mrs. Daniel was also a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Friendship Supper Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Daniel; one son, Keenan Lynn Traveny; and brothers, Ronald Leslie Burks, Howard Burks, Robert Burks and Hollis Meriam Burks, Jr. Mrs. Daniel is survived by her daughters, Athena Kim Ferguson of Guin, AL and Melinda Dawn Callahan of Hinesville, GA; brothers, Donald (Kathy) Burks and Alvin (Debbie) Burks of Corsiana, TX; sister, Louise Andrews of Fulton, AL; sister in law, Nona Burks of Greenwood, AR; five grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jody Mayo, Derrell Mayo, Will Mayo, Tuesday Placencio, Braxton Mayo and Tony Lawrence. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
