Allegra Brigham is a modern-day Deborah.
While she is no prophetess (to our knowledge), she delivered her alma mater from near implosion.
Brigham re-embraced the disenfranchised former MUW Alumnae Association, restoring unity to a divided house.
With Brigham’s tenure as interim president, she restored a much-needed sense of optimism at The W, and she reminded the community of the college’s value and its mission.
After a year and a half, her time as MUW president is ending.
And even while the rest of us continue to praise her thoughtful and effective leadership, Brigham takes every opportunity she can to talk about her successor.
Jim Borsig has probably never had a bigger cheerleader.
As Borsig himself said, Brigham has made his job easier.
Hers is a life of service and humility.
She is the kind of leader we wish more leaders were like.
When Deborah chose a captain to free Israel from Canaanite persecution, he refused to go into battle unless she went too.
He wanted her guidance and the assurance of having her nearby.
It’s the same kind of trust Brigham evokes.
Brigham hasn’t told us what’s next for her.
Whatever it is, we know it will have meaning and purpose.
And we’ll be prepared to march into battle with her.
