Supports Haug
I am writing in support of Marty Haug for Justice Court Judge of District 3, Oktibbeha County.
While a candidate for justice court judge does not have to have a law degree, or in fact any college degree at all, he or she should. A system that allows for under-qualified judges opens the door to appeals and judicial complaints, which decreases confidence in and perception of the judicial office, at the same time, it is a financial burden to our county and state.
Haug has been trained to be a judge through three years of law school. He has represented thousands of clients and has practiced in front of judges at every level of the law in two states. He understands the job and demeanor of a judge. As a practicing attorney, he understands the courtroom code of conduct and ethics that would allow for fair, unbiased, and ethical treatment of every case that comes before him. He would be ready to work on day one.
As attorney he has witnessed inconsistencies within justice court. He decided that instead of complaining, he would try to correct the problems. His willingness to run for this position and the countless hours he has spent campaigning are a clear indication of Marty’s strong belief in his civic responsibility. He is running, not because he needs the job, but because he wants the local court system to work better and to be fairer. He has attended every candidate forum in order to demonstrate his earnest desire to hold the office of justice court judge.
In addition to being sole proprietor of his own law practice, Marty volunteers for several local non-profits and organizations. He has designed and built sets for community theater plays. He sits on the board of the Oktibbeha County Humane Society. And he has been a volunteer youth soccer coach. He is an Oktibbeha County native, a graduate of Starkville High School and Mississippi State University. He is a devoted husband and father. He is a kind, moral, and intelligent man. I am voting for Marty Haug, not because he is my husband, but because I know these things to be true.
I urge you to vote for Marty Haug for justice court judge on Nov. 3.
