Political correctness run amuck’
I was terribly disappointed to see the Sunday edition of your paper with front page headlines, pictures and interviews against HB 1523 without a single thoughtful response in favor of this bill. I get that this is politically incorrect. I get that it is very unfashionable to be in favor of this bill. I get that there will be economic backlash and lots of jokes on late night TV about our great state.
I do not get that you saw fit to ignore the large segment of your readership who is for HB 1523. Companies across the country have declared they will punish Mississippi and North Carolina for their “religious freedom” bills.
They are following their conscience and have every right to do so. This bill simply allows business owners, most of whom are small businesses, to follow their conscience. I would encourage everyone to read the bill. My guess is that many people bashing this bill as “hateful” and a “license to discriminate” have not even read it. Political correctness run amuck only makes this world more intolerant than it has ever been.
