Troubled by cartoon
I am troubled by Friday’s political cartoon. At a time when all people need to come together and address our nation’s problems, we need unity and understanding by everyone, not one-sided finger pointing. Political cartoons should be insightful not inciteful. Friday’s political cartoon at best was in extremely bad taste. At its worse, it provides an excuse for even more violence.
For over 35 years, I worked closely with law enforcement. Did I ever see any bad apples? Yes, but having dealt with hundreds, I could count the bad on one hand.
Even the worst would never go out intending to randomly harm anyone. Might they over react with tragic results? Yes, but not with premeditation, and it is premeditation your so-called cartoon implies.
It is a dishonest cartoon that creates a false impression and is the sort of thing that rather than encouraging law enforcement to address problems might cause them to circle the wagons. Some here will take the cartoon as your view of all law enforcement officers including our local ones. I know you did not intend that but it is the unintended consequences. I would have expected more from The Dispatch.
