Disappointed by voters
I am a liberal Mississippi Democrat that was disheartened by last week’s election results. The fact that Trump won was not the disappointing factor. The fact that America lowered the standards of the most powerful seat in the world was most disappointing.
I have been a Democrat all of my adult life and the only time I voted Republican was in the Senate runoff between Cochran/Daniels and my vote went to Thad Cochran because Daniels was Trump warmed over.
If Clinton had said and done the things that Trump said and did, there was no way that I could or would have voted for her. I would have felt that her personality and rhetoric was beneath the office of president. The control of the Supreme Court wouldn’t have been a point of contention to me.
But on the other hand, America looked the other way and elected a man with these same blemishes on his persona. The rest of America is expected to ignore this man’s shortcomings and wear fake smiles as if everything is honky dory in wonderland. Trump encouraged violence at his rallies and said nothing when people were spit on and attacked. But this is not breaking news. America watched as these things unfolded almost weekly. And America said nothing until Nov. 8, when Trump was elected president.
President Obama was vilified for wearing a tan suit at a press conference, as being beneath the office. His wife, Michelle, was torched for wearing a sleeveless dress, leaving bare her arms. But all of this is to be forgotten and we should give total respect and admiration to a couple that’s about to occupy the White House.
I’m not disappointed in Donald Trump. I’m more disappointed in a shot fired by the American voters and was heard around the world.
