Reader clarifies opinion on moving monument
The letter I sent about the ones wanting the monument down being the ones who should pay for it didn't come from a racist place. It came from the fact that it is probably going to cost over $100,000 to move it, and once it is placed in the cemetery it will probably be vandalized. Also, to me, it doesn't seem to matter how much is done, it is never going to be enough. History is just that: history. We can't change what has happened, and getting rid of the monuments and flags is not really going to change anything. The only thing that will change things is the hearts of people. And that is on both sides.
