Private money should be used for moving statue

Reading the newspaper and listening to the talking heads on radio and TV several thoughts rushed through my head. Now I'm not an intellectual, don't have a degree, but did go to Lee High and Scooba Tech and have slept in several Holiday Inn Expresses. This offensive statue at the courthouse was paid for by a group of ladies to honor the fallen Confederates soldiers. No public funds what so ever were used. I know that was a different time and racial climate then. But one thought that I've had is, if those that are determined this offensive part of history needs to be moved, pass the hat among yourselves. Why should taxpayers be charged for the cost? I know the city doesn't have a dime to spare and the county could use that money on roads and other things. Move it, tear it down and carry it to the landfill, I don't really care, but don't make me pay for it. It's like the flag deal. Is changing it going to make us love each other more? For crying out loud we don't bleed black or white, we all bleed red last time I checked. We're all Americans.

God Bless America.
