Northwood Garden Club
The first meeting of the new club year for Northwood Garden Club of Columbus was a salad luncheon held at the home of Lucy Phillips.
In September, in honor of the late Judith Wagner Hanson, an active club member who passed away Jan. 31 at the age of 70, Northwood Garden Club donated a painting, “In My Sister’s Garden,” by Hanson to the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau in September.
After spending three years at the Art Students League of New York, Hanson studied anatomy under Frank Beverly Hale. She later spent a year at the Dallas Art Institute, studying under J. Nelson Shanks.
Hanson considered herself a colorist and employed the Old Masters background when painting. She also used the methods of light to light perfected by the Impressionists. Her paintings hang throughout the United States and in the homes of many of her friends, club members said.
CVB Director Nancy Carpenter accepted the painting as an addition to the new CVB facility.
Red Wing Garden Club
The Red Wing Garden Club began its new club year with a luncheon meeting at the Columbus Country Club. Member Sigga Head was the hostess.
It was announced that club president Carolyn Long had became a new grandmother. In her absence, vice president Lisa Glenn welcomed members and explained the activities planned for the year. Copies of the treasurer’s report were distributed. Chaplain JoAnn Ferguson gave the devotional.
The next meeting will be at the Soroptimist Style Show Luncheon on Oct. 6.
