Jackie Sherrill finds ways to be around the sport of football.
Since retiring as Mississippi State”s all-time winningest coach, Sherrill has tried to stay close to the game by working in television and radio and with his sports nutrition company.
There might be another way Sherrill will be able to satisfy his football desire: The United Football League.
The UFL, which recently completed its first season with four teams, has expressed an interest in expanding, and Sherrill could be involved with bringing one of those franchises to Mississippi.
Sherrill said any talk about the UFL coming to the state is premature.
“Anything I would say wouldn”t be very credible,” Sherrill said. “No one knows really until it starts, but it”s a possibility it will. It”s still way too early to have anything definitively to say one way or the other.”
Until then, Sherrill plans to remain active in radio and contributing articles to BulldawgJunction.com.
He”s also excited about his work with sports nutrition.
“There are a lot of teams out there who use our products,” Sherrill said. “The University of Cincinnati is probably one that uses all of the products exclusively and quite a bit of the players are good players. We have a lot of high school teams around that are using the products.”
Sherrill, who had a 75-75-2 record with the Bulldogs from 1991-2003, also uses some of his spare time working with high school kickers, punters, snappers, and holders in the Memphis area.
