Columbus attorney Scott Colom on Tuesday ousted Forrest Allgood as the chief prosecutor for Mississippi's 16th District.
Allgood, 61, had held the position since 1989.
Colom, a 32-year-old Democrat, now becomes the district attorney for Lowndes, Oktibbeha, Clay and Noxubee counties.
Colom on Tuesday garnered 53.9 percent of the vote across the four-county district, with 20,724 ballots in his favor. Allgood received 46.1 percent with 17,685 votes, according to unofficial results.
