An old-fashioned ice cream parlor and dessert shop is now open in Columbus.
Chunky Chuck’s Ice Cream, which is located at 3189 Highway 45 N. in the Holly Hills Plaza, held its grand opening today. The sweet shop sells Edy’s and Blue Bell ice creams, with a variety of milkshakes, banana splits, specialty sundaes and ice cream toppings on the menu. It even has an orange cream slushie for Dreamsicle fans.
Columbus residents Chuck and Judy Trenary opened the shop.
There are no set hours for Chunky Chuck’s. In fact, if you walk by you may notice the sign in the window that reads “Open when the door is unlocked and closed when the door is locked.”
Currently, the shop is only accepting cash. However, it should be able to accept debit cards in the coming days.
Trenary previously operated CJ’s Pizza in multiple locations and a 1950s diner where Zachary’s is currently located.
Last week, I told you that Backyard Burgers was reopening on March 5. However, owner Josh Powell had to delay the opening date by one week. The burger joint will now reopen its doors Monday.
A Starkville bakery has relocated to a larger storefront in the same shopping center it was previously located.
The Cake Box Eatery and Bakery, which relocated to the East Plaza Shopping Center on Russell Street last August, has moved two doors down to the opposite side of the Hallmark Gift shop.
The restaurant held a re-grand opening last week, and frequent customers can expect this shop to be the permanent home of The Cake Box.
The new location, which is larger than the last one, will allow for a buffet and soup and salad bar that was not featured in the last location due to space limitations. The restaurant will still serve its signature, southern blue-plate meals, as well.
The Cake Box is open Tuesday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as Sunday afternoon 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Also in Starkville, Highway 12 drivers may notice some upcoming changes to The Hampton Inn hotel, which is located at the corner of Highway 12 and Blackjack Road.
A hotel employee said the upgrades and renovations are limited to the exterior, including a new paint job, so hotel guests should not experience any disruptions during their stay.
