JONESBORO, Ark. -- The No. 4 Ole Miss baseball team had a season-high 17 hits Tuesday night in a 15-8 victory against Arkansas State.
Ole Miss (40-13) posted its highest-scoring game of the season to end its regular-season non-conference schedule at 24-2, which ties the program record. The Rebels also posted their best record in midweek games (13-1). It marks the third time in the last five years the Rebels have had 40 regular-season wins.
The Rebels scored in every inning but the fourth and ninth. They jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the first thanks to a two-RBI single by Cole Zabowski. Zabowski was one of seven Rebels with multiple hits, and one of five with multiple RBIs.
Former New Hope High School standout Will Golsan went 0-for-4.
Ole Miss will wrap up its Southeastern Conference regular-season schedule this weekend against Alabama.
No. 18 Southern Mississippi loses to New Orleans
HATTIESBURG -- New Orleans had 22 hits against seven pitchers Tuesday in a 14-9 victory against No. 18 Southern Mississippi at Pete Taylor Park.
The Golden Eagles (36-15) lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, and have dropped three of their last four games, all at home.
The Golden Eagles remain in first place by two-and-a-half games in Conference USA. USM leads Louisiana Tech and Florida Atlantic with three regular-season conference games left.
Southern Miss, which stands 20-6 in the conference, opens its final C-USA series at 5 p.m. Thursday at Marshall (19-28, 7-19 C-USA). One Southern Miss win or a loss by Louisiana Tech and Florida Atlantic would clinch the Golden Eagles' second consecutive regular-season C-USA crown.
UNO (25-28) won its fifth-consecutive game by collecting the most hits and runs allowed by Southern Miss in a game this season.
Luke Reynolds had three hits, scored two runs scored, and drove in two with a double to lead the Golden Eagles.
Christopher DeMayo (1-1), the third of seven UNO pitchers, allowed a run on two hits in three innings.
