A woman in Clay County has been jailed for allegedly kidnapping her granddaughter, initiating an Amber Alert, Wednesday night.
Martha Anne Poss, 49, was charged Thursday with kidnapping a child under the age of 10 and taking a motor vehicle.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a kidnapped child Wednesday at about 10:30 p.m. Sheriff Eddie Scott did not release much information about the victim but said Poss kidnapped her from “the family she was placed with.”
Authorities initiated an Amber Alert, which Scott said he believes helped find the victim. Poss was driving back toward the house where the victim was kidnapped when deputies arrested her at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
“We think it was a good thing, maybe scared her a little bit, and made her come back,” Scott said.
“The child is our number one priority, getting the child back safe,” he added. “We accomplished that goal.”
Poss is currently in custody at Clay County Jail on $100,000 bond.
