A West Point man is in jail in Lowndes County after allegedly extorting money.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested Thomas Yarnell Macon, 38, on suspicion of felony extortion. Macon, according to a LCSO press release, threatened that he was “going to place some items on the internet that would be of concern and harm to the victim” if the victim did not give him cash, the press release said.
Macon has previously extorted the victim, according to the department.
The victim contacted LCSO and the Lowndes County task force took over the case, according to the release. Officers arrested Macon in the act at the intersection of Ninth Street and Main Street in Columbus.
Macon is in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on a $7,500 bond. He also has a hold from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, according to the press release.
