The parents of a 7-week-old infant have been charged with contributing to the neglect of a child for allegedly not providing proper medical care.

Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff's Office arrested Second Lt. Carissa Lee Vaccaro and Jordan Cox, both 24 of 4500 Alabama Ave. on Columbus Air Force Base, on Wednesday, according to a LCSO press release.

The infant was admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle on Oct. 12 with a broken femur bone. The next day, the child was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where the infant was diagnosed with "multiple injuries which were in different stages of healing," the press release said. Authorities determined the injuries were caused by another person and that Vaccaro and Cox did not provide proper medical care to the child.

LCSO investigators did not release any other information on the child, including the gender.

A CAFB press release said Vaccaro is currently waiting to start pilot training at the base and has been assigned to the 14th Student Squadron. Cox is not officially affiliated with the base, the press release said.

Both Vaccaro and Cox have been released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $10,000 bond each.
