A third Republican candidate has joined the race for Lowndes County chancery clerk.
Jessica Lancaster Pierce, an executive assistant at Cadence Bank and a former deputy clerk in the chancery clerk’s office, qualified to run late last week against Cindy Eggar Goode and Andre Roberts. All are vying to replace long-time chancery clerk Lisa Younger Neese, who will retire in December.
Pierce worked under Neese for eight years, starting when she was 16 years old. During her time as deputy chancery clerk, she worked in all three offices, something she said will inform her leadership should she be elected.
“We were like a family there,” said Pierce, speaking to The Dispatch. “It was such a small office and we all loved working with each other. I would definitely keep that going.”
Pierce said she would like to emphasize the importance of community service as a chancery clerk.
“I would like to continue doing the community service I’m already doing,” she said. “I would want to be able to promote community involvement with the staff.”
Pierce said she was approached by several county residents who offered financial and campaign support if she chose to run.
“At this point, I really have nothing to lose,” she said. “I love my job, so either way, I’ll be OK.”
Goode, a current deputy clerk who has been endorsed by Neese, declined to comment. Roberts, a security officer at Leigh Mall, could not be reached for comment.
Qualifying for county and state offices ends March 1. Party primaries are set for August.
