A Columbus man who pleaded guilty to shooting his brother will spend eight years in prison for aggravated assault.
Nasser Amro, 43, was sentenced to 20 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections, with eight to serve and 12 suspended, in Noxubee County Circuit Court Monday.
Columbus police arrested Amro in September 2017 and charged him with attempted murder after he shot into King’s Court Convenience Store on Main Street in Columbus. Amro’s brother was hit in the lower back and taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Authorities described it at the time as a “domestic violence incident.”
Amro’s charge was lessened to aggravated assault based on his plea.
Amro pleaded guilty during a term of Noxubee County Circuit Court, meaning the judges who could sentence him were in Noxubee County instead of Lowndes.
A second charge of shooting into a building was dismissed based on Amro’s plea.
Lowndes County Adult Detention Center did not provide The Dispatch with a mugshot of Amro by press time.
