FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It was a weekend to forget for Mississippi State’s baseball team.
MSU concluded its weekend trip to No. 12 Arkansas with a third loss in as many days, falling to the Razorbacks, 10-2.
Freshman pitcher JT Ginn was roughed up in five innings of work for the Diamond Dawgs. Ginn gave up three runs on five hits while striking out four, and was the losing pitcher.
Junior pitcher Trysten Barlow was even more ineffective. Arkansas tagged Barlow for six runs on two hits and two walks. He registered just a single out. Senior Jared Liebelt and junior Colby White fared better, combining for three hits, one run, one walk and three strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
“We lost a tough game on Thursday night and these last two games [we just got beat],” Lemonis said. “I thought we got a good start [from JT Ginn] today, but we are just not doing enough to win right now.”
Offensively, the Diamond Dawgs totaled just four hits in the first eight innings of play.
MSU threatened briefly in the top of the ninth when sophomore Rowdey Jordan delivered a two-run single to score sophomore Tanner Allen and freshman Hayden Jones.
Freshman Landon Jordan walked on the ensuing at-bat, but a Luke Hancock strikeout and Marshall Gilbert fly-out ended the game.
Following the sweep, the Diamond Dawgs sit fourth in the SEC West standings behind Arkansas, Texas A&M and LSU at 32-9 and 10-8 in conference play.
“Hopefully, we can get back, get to work and start playing good baseball [down the stretch],” Lemonis said.
MSU faces a quick turnaround as they take on in-state rival No. 15 Ole Miss Tuesday night in Pearl for the annual Governor’s Cup game before hosting No. 5 Georgia in a three-game series next weekend.
