Authorities have arrested one suspect and are searching for another involved in a weekend shooting that sent a 14-year-old girl to the hospital.
Police responded to the shooting shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of 12th Avenue South, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. The victim was shot in the ankle, and her injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
The press release said the victim was not the shooter’s target. Two individuals became involved in an argument and the suspect shot at the other when the 14-year-old was struck. Investigators said the victim was not part of the altercation.
Though police are still searching for the shooter, Desi John Harris, Jr., 29, of Emerald Drive in Columbus, has been charged with felony accessory after the fact of aggravated assault in connection with the incident, the press release said.
“The case is still under investigation and we do fully expect another arrest,” Police Chief Fred Shelton said in the release. “Anyone with information is asked to call (Golden Triangle) Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151.”
Harris is in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
