Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle has achieved gold certification from the Mississippi Cancer Registry based on the hospital’s submission of timely, complete and high-quality data. This year’s certification is based on the diagnosis year 2017.
Baptist Golden Triangle submitted at least 95 percent of its expected volume of cancer cases diagnosed and/or receiving the first course of treatment at the hospital; less than two percent of the hospital’s cancer cases reported were missing crucial information such as age, sex or city of residence; and less than three percent of the cancer cases were missing the race of the patient.
Also, to receive the gold certification, the hospital must have submitted information on 100 percent of the unresolved cancer deaths that occurred at the hospital within the state’s deadline. The hospital scored 99 percent on completeness of data submitted and 100 percent in reporting unresolved cancer deaths to qualify for the gold certification. Timeliness could not be used in assessing the 2017 data because the large volume of coding rules that changed beginning with diagnosis year 2016 caused software vendors delays in getting the appropriate updates to the hospitals. That affected the ability to complete the 2017 data in a timely manner.
The purpose of the award is to recognize hospitals for submitting information so that the Mississippi Cancer Registry can effectively monitor the amount of cancer cases in the state.
