Sherry Ivy: Seven ways to handle stress

While we're going through these stressful times we can do these things to help us handle stress:

· Take breaks from the news -- Watching the news regularly will keep us overwhelmed with stress. Therefore, let us take the time and think about just how good the Lord has been to us. "O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." (Psalm 34:8) KJV

· Laugh out loud -- Laughter is one of the easy ways for us to relieve stress. Just one good laugh a day will keep the stress away. "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." (Proverbs 17:22) NIV

· Avoid people who stress you out -- When we are stressed to the limit, we don't need people around us who will stress us out more. We need to surround ourselves with positive people that will always be there to give us the encouragement we need to go on. "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." (1 Thessalonians 5:11) NIV

· Meditate on the word of God daily -- The word of God is a good stress reliever. That's why we have to meditate on it before we lay down at night and when we get up in the morning. By doing this, it will help us handle any stress that we have to deal with during the day. "But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." (Psalms 1:2) KJV

· Recognize what stresses you out -- We all have certain trigger points that can stress us out. Each time we feel it coming on: stop, breathe and pray, and it will calm us down. "Pray without ceasing." (1 Thessalonians 5:17) KJV

· Start singing and praising God -- The more we praise God, the less stressed we will feel. "I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving." (Psalm 69:30) KJV

· Write things down -- Let us stop trying to overload our minds to remember everything. Instead, start taking notes, making a list and ask the Holy Spirit to help us remember. This will free our minds and help us feel less stressed. "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26) KJV

So be encouraged today and always remember: We can't handle stress in our own strength, but we can do it through the strength that God gives us. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13) KJV
