The former Fred’s building downtown and the old Ryan’s restaurant building on Highway 45, both in Columbus, are under contract for potential sale.
The 16,000-square-foot former Fred’s building, 304 Fifth St. S., has two business offices that are currently vacant, as well as the former Fred’s retail portion, which is around 13,000 square feet.
Though Realtor Caroline Bromley would not identify the potential buyer while the sale is pending, she said she hopes the deal is finalized by the end of the year.
“They have great plans for it,” she said. “It’s going to be a plus for the community. …The downtown area is a historic area and the new buyer is looking to keep it historically correct.”
Bromley added the potential buyers under contract now plan to renovate and restore the building back to the early 1900s when it served as Harden’s Bakery.
The former Ryan’s Buffet building, 1201 Hwy. 45 N., was listed about a year and a half ago for $795,000. Listing agent Royce Hudspeth would not comment on the potential buyer until the sale is finalized but confirmed it is “under contract and in due diligence.”
The building is on about two acres and is a little more than 10,000 square feet.
Keep an eye out for these two commercial properties that can help bring more business to Columbus.
Moving to Starkville, we have another food truck in town.
Recent Mississippi University for Women graduate Hannah Baird officially opened her food trailer, Nutrigroove, last week.
Baird opened in the Little Dooey parking lot at the corner of Fellowship and Lampkin streets.
Nutrigroove serves customers acai fruit bowls, smoothies, herbal teas and bagels.
Baird got the idea last year when she tried the superfood acai for the first time in Hawaii while visiting her friend.
“When I was there sitting on the beach I just knew I wanted to do this,” Baird said. “… I wanted to bring acai to Starkville so everyone else can enjoy it the same way I did. I just love it and so far everyone else does too.”
Go on and get your fruit fix Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
