HANCEVILLE — Deion Curry had a team-high 17 points Wednesday to lead the Pickens County High School boys basketball team to a 79-57 victory against Tharptown in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 1A Northwest Regional at Wallace State Community College.
With the win, Pickens County (27-1) advances to the regional final to play Parrish at 10:40 a.m. Saturday. Pickens County has defeated Parrish three times this season.
Pickens County scored 35 points in the second quarter to build a 49-23 lead at halftime.
The Tornadoes won the Class 2A state title this season. This season”s team has seven players from the 2010 championship squad.
Curry had 11 points in the second quarter, and Warren Betts added seven to help Pickens County break open a game that was close after the first quarter.
Curry, who comes off the bench, also had four rebounds and four steals. Junior LaJuan Doss had 13 points, six assists, four rebounds, and four steals, while Nick Stewart had 13 points and four rebounds.
Betts finished with nine points. LaGlendale Hughes (four points) had seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Pickens County had 19 steals and forced 28 turnovers.
