The accolades continue to come in for the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State baseball programs.
Baseball America ranked Ole Miss’ 2011 recruiting class fifth nationally and MSU’s class No. 14.
The ranking is the highest for an Ole Miss recruiting class. It’s the second top-20 ranking for the Bulldogs, and gives MSU three consecutive years of top-20 recruiting rankings under coach John Cohen.
Vanderbilt beat out Texas for the top spot in Baseball America’s top 25 list, which includes eight teams from the Southeastern Conference. Joining Vanderbilt and Mississippi State in the survey are No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 15 Florida, No. 21 Georgia, No. 22 Arkansas and No. 24 Alabama.
Earlier this year Collegiate Baseball newspaper ranked MSU’s 13-player recruiting class 20th. The class features 10 players from the prep ranks and three junior college transfers.
The newcomers are among 38 players engaged in fall baseball practice. The Bulldogs will conclude fall drills with a seven-game Bulldog World Series Oct. 28 to Nov. 6 at Dudy Noble Field.
Fans can see Ole Miss in action this weekend with a pair of scrimmages at O-U Stadium/Swayze Field. The team will scrimmage at 2:30 p.m. today and at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Ole Miss is in the middle of fall practice that will conclude next week with the Red-Blue World Series starting on Wednesday.
The Rebels will open the 2011 season Feb. 17 with a three-game series at TCU.
