COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Mississippi State senior quarterback Dak Prescott saw one streak come to an end, but increased another streak Saturday night.
Prescott failed to pass for a touchdown, but didn’t throw an interception as the No. 21 Bulldogs lost 30-17 to No. 14 Texas A&M Saturday night.
Prescott had thrown a touchdown pass in 18-straight games, but that came to an end, but he has now gone 225-straight passes without throwing an interception dating back to last season. It is the longest active streak in the country and third-longest in SEC history.
“I thought he played well,” MSU coach Dan Mullen said. “I think he did miss a couple of throws. A couple of times he was high over the middle.”
Prescott completed 20 of 34 passes for 210 yards. He rushed the ball a season-high 18 times for 110 yards. Entering the game, the Haughton, Louisiana, native had only rushed the ball 30 times for 121 yards.
Prescott had a 5-yard touchdown, his third of the season.
“They were giving us the quarterback run and I know I have to get the run game going,” Prescott said. “My aspect is the team, so I was going to do what I could to get the run game going. That’s just how it panned out.”
Injury bug
MSU entered the game pretty healthy, but five players went down and none of them returned.
Senior safety Kendrick Market and sophomore wide receiver and former Starkville High School standout Gabe Myles were on crutches late in the second half.
Senior offensive lineman Rufus Warren, senior wide receiver Joe Morrow, and senior cornerback Will Redmond were also injured, but MSU coach Dan Mullen had no update on any of the five players. Mullen also said freshman running back/wide receiver Malik Dear was also banged up, but he played in the second half.
“That’s all part of the game,” Mullen said.
Market missed the Northwestern State contest two weeks ago as a precaution with a foot injury. He came back and played last week against Auburn and was second on the team with eight tackles.
Market suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in last season’s regular season finale against Ole Miss. He missed the Orange Bowl against Georgia Tech and didn’t participate in spring practice.
He was cleared before fall practice got underway and competed all throughout training camp.
Largest crowd
The announced crowd of 104,455 at Kyle Field is the largest crowd MSU has ever played in front of.
The Bulldogs played in front of 104,223 at the University of Tennessee on Nov. 15, 2003. The Bulldogs lost that day 59-21.
MSU’s largest crowd at home came last year against Auburn. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers 38-23 in front of 62,945 at Davis Wade Stadium.
