STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen did not call the police on former MSU running back Josh Robinson, according to a team spokesperson and MSU campus police.
Through social media sites, including Twitter, Snap Chat and Instagram, Robinson claimed Mullen called the authorities while he was working out at the MSU football facilities late Tuesday night. He was issued a trespassing citation.
“(Tuesday night) at 9:10 p.m., a member of our track staff saw a car parked on the track and called campus police to report it,” team spokesperson Bill Martin tweeted Wednesday morning. “The police came and issued a citation to someone who turned out to be Josh Robinson. Former MSU student-athletes often use our facilities as they prepare for pro opportunities, but typically coordinate that use with department staff to prevent these type of situations.”
According to MSU police, track and field coordinator Daniel Schmidt made the call to police. Upon arrival, the police asked Robinson why his car was on the track and he said he needed the lights to get better.
Robinson tweeted that he had been training with the team and decided to take a night run, something he said he has done numerous times.
“My head coach, who I thought always had my back and we are ‘family’ called the police for trespassing,” Robinson tweeted. “I am very hurt by this frfr (for real, for real) but most of all disrespected as a former MSU bulldog… But this is not the first time tho… Should have known better… It’s just the first thing others have seen frfr. I did this for 5 years… Why is it a problem now I wonder…?”
Robinson called out running backs coach Greg Knox during a Snap Chat video story. “Coach Knox bring your tail out here right now. Right now,” Robinson is heard saying on the video.
Robinson was arrested by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office July 23 and charged with disorderly conduct.
Robinson had 1,203 yards rushing during the 2014 season. He declared for the NFL Draft before the Orange Bowl that season and was taken in the sixth round by the Indianapolis Colts. He was waived in November, but the Colts signed him to the practice squad. He is currently a free agent.
