CALEDONIA — Caledonia High School softball players used the word destiny.
After knocking off Kosciusko 8-2 in the opening game of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A North State championship series, the Lady Feds thought this might be their year.
Unfortunately, the magic ride ended Saturday night when Kosciusko took 9-1 and 8-3 victories to win the series and to advance to the state finals.
“We were thinking that it might be meant to be,” Caledonia senior Gracie McClesky said. “We have been doing some things we haven’t done all season. It has been a special ride.”
Kosciusko won regular-season meetings 12-0 and 9-0.
In the third round, Caledonia beat West Lauderdale twice after losing to West Lauderdale twice in the regular season.
“That is where out motivation comes from,” Caledonia junior Hope Harbin said. “We aren’t intimidated. We have a lot of confidence.”
McClesky hit a two-run home run in the first inning Friday night.
A two-run double by Harbin helped push the lead to 6-0.
The offensive magic would not duplicate itself a night later.
