FULTON — The Itawamba Community College football team warmed up for archrival East Mississippi C.C. in style Thursday night.
The Indians did so with plenty of help from some former local standouts.
Former Caledonia High School standout Jamel Thomas caught a 10-yard pass from Dan Ellington in the fourth quarter to help ICC upset No. 5 Northwest Mississippi C.C. 27-24.
The victory sets up a pivotal Mississippi Association Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division matchup next week between ICC (1-2, 1-0 North Division) and No. 2 EMCC (3-0, 1-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Scooba.
Northwest Mississippi C.C. (1-1, 0-1) took a 24-21 lead early in the fourth quarter when former Aberdeen High standout Jerrick Orr caught a 7-yard touchdown from Jack Abraham. The score helped the Rangers erase a 14-0 first-quarter deficit.
Former West Point High standout Kadarius Forside scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter for the Indians. Former Hamilton High standout Keshon Heard added a 95-yard kickoff return in the second quarter to give ICC a 21-10 halftime lead.
Former Caledonia High standout Caleb Comer added three extra points.
