STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s basketball has its first commitment in the class of 2020.
Five-star recruit Madison Hayes announced her verbal pledge to coach Vic Schaefer and the Bulldogs over Twitter Friday afternoon, though she has not officially signed on yet.
Hayes is rated as the No. 29 player and the No. 7 guard in ESPNW’s HoopGurlz class of 2020 rankings. As a junior, she earned Miss Basketball honors in Tennessee after averaging 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds and four steals — helping East Hamilton High School to an 21-13 record.
Hayes was also a member of the 2019 USA Basketball 3×3 U-18 World Cup team alongside current MSU freshman Rickea Jackson — a five-star recruit in the 2019 class and the highest rated prospect ever to commit to the Bulldogs.
MSU finished the 2019 recruiting cycle with the No. 6-ranked class in the country — headlined by Jackson and fellow five-star prospect Aliyah Matharu along with four-star signees Jayla Hemingway and JaMya Mingo-Young.
The Bulldogs will open their season Nov. 9 against Southern Miss in Starkville.
