The West Lowndes girls basketball team kept its undefeated season alive with ease Tuesday, dispatching Stringer 83-19 in the first round of the MHSAA Class 1A playoffs in Columbus.
Takara Givens led the Panthers with 24 points, and Tydajasha Hood had 16.
West Lowndes (23-0) will host Lumberton at 6 p.m. Friday.
West Lowndes boys 98, Stringer 46
The West Lowndes boys earned a 98-46 home win over Stringer on Tuesday night in Columbus as the Panthers doubled up with blowout wins over the Red Devils.
Jataquist Brown led West Lowndes with 21 points. Albert Plair scored 14, Melvin Crawford had 13, and Jherquaveus Sanders had 10.
The Panthers will host West Bolivar in the second round at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Leake Central boys 53, Caledonia 49
CALEDONIA — The Caledonia boys team’s season came to an end Tuesday with a 53-49 home loss to Leake Central in the Class 4A first round.
Cooper McCleskey led the Confederates with 27 points, and Jarvis Leigh had 10.
Caledonia ended its season with a record of 16-12.
Noxubee County boys 83, Byhalia 79, 3OT
MACON — The Noxubee County boys survived Byhalia 83-79 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Tuesday in Macon.
The Tigers will play at Booneville in the second round at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Hartfield Academy girls 56, Starkville Academy 30
FLOWOOD — The Starkville Academy girls saw their season end Tuesday with a 56-30 loss to host Hartfield Academy in the first round of the MAIS Class 4A tournament Tuesday in Flowood.
The Volunteers finished the year with a 19-14 record.
Christian Collegiate Academy boys 64, Columbus Christian Academy 41
BAY SPRINGS — The Columbus Christian Academy boys team was eliminated by Christian Collegiate Academy, 64-41, in the first round of the MAIS Class 2A tournament Tuesday at Sylva-Bay Academy.
Jonathan Peal had 19 points for the Rams, and Will Teague had 12.
Manchester Academy girls 47, Columbus Christian Academy 41
BAY SPRINGS — The Columbus Christian Academy girls lost 47-41 to Manchester Academy in the first round of the MAIS Class 2A tournament Tuesday in Bay Springs.
Kylie Emerson scored 12 points and Morgan Whitten added 11 as the Rams were eliminated.
Greenville Christian girls 71, Hebron Christian 35
BAY SPRINGS — The Hebron Christian School girls team lost 71-35 to Greenville Christian School in the first round of the MAIS Class 2A tournament Tuesday at Sylva-Bay Academy in Bay Springs.
The Eagles’ season came to a close with the loss.
