Georgia Southern University announced Thursday that it has hired Mississippi State Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief Financial Officer Jared Benko as the school’s new athletic director.
Benko spent the last four years at Mississippi State assisting Athletic Director John Cohen with strategic planning, marketing, public relations and personal decisions as well as supervising the athletic department and serving as an administrator for the Bulldogs’ football program.
“I am humbled and honored to serve the Georgia Southern University family,” Benko said in a news release from Georgia Southern. “The passion and pride of Eagle Nation is unmatched, and I am excited and deeply committed to bringing a hard-working and innovative culture to our coaches, staff and student-athletes. Thank you to President (Kyle) Marrero and the search committee for entrusting me with this critical leadership position. Georgia Southern’s best days are ahead for me and my family, and I look forward to joining the Statesboro community.”
Benko also worked at Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia before joining Mississippi State.
