West Lowndes High School boys basketball coach Donta Yates won’t return for the 2020-21 season, he confirmed to The Dispatch on Friday.
The Lowndes County School District will not renew Yates’ contract, which is set to expire May 22.
The former West Point coach led the Panthers to a 13-9 record this season. West Lowndes beat Stringer and West Bolivar in the first and second rounds of the MHSAA Class 1A playoffs this year before losing to West Tallahatchie in the state quarterfinals.
Yates was named district coach of the year this season. He teaches physical education and ACT prep at West Lowndes.
Caledonia tennis coach Heather Logan was also among LCSD’s non-renewals for 2020-21, also effective May 22.
