The Heritage Academy girls soccer team got off to an excellent offensive start on Monday night, beating Starkville HomeSchool 7-3 at the Columbus Soccer Complex.
Caroline Peal led the Patriots with a hat trick, while Sarah Curtis, Sophie Starks, Emma Britt and Kelly Bell (penalty kick) all scored.
The Patriots will face Laurel HomeSchool on Thursday.
Presbyterian Christian 6, Starkville Academy 0
HATTIESBURG — Starkville Academy was shut out by Presbyterian Christian, 6-0, on Monday in Hattiesburg.
The Volunteers return home to host Hartfield Academy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Starkville Sportsplex.
Softball
Winona Christian 25, Starkville Academy 7, six innings
STARKVILLE — The Starkville Academy softball team was run-ruled by Winona Christian on Monday in Starkville, 25-7.
The Volunteers fell behind 6-2 after the first inning and trailed 9-3 after three. They turned a 14-3 deficit into a 14-7 game after five innings, but Winona put the game out of reach in the sixth.
The Volunteers host Central Holmes Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Calhoun Academy 6, Hebron Christian 5, eight innings
PHEBA — The Hebron Christian softball team lost an extra-inning home game Monday to Calhoun Academy, 6-5.
The Cougars pushed across the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, and the Rams couldn’t tie the game.
Hebron had a 1-0 lead in the third inning, and the contest was tied at 2-2 after three frames. Calhoun had a 5-3 lead after five innings.
