Mandy Anderson had two goals as the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science girls soccer team beat Winona 4-0 on Saturday at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex.
Weslyn McMurrin and Lauren Rutherford added goals for the Blue Waves (3-0.)
“After a hard-fought win Thursday, it was great to see the girls respond so strongly less than 48 hours later,” head coach Chuck Yarborough said in a news release. “Our on-field communication continues to improve, and we are playing the ball to space more effectively as the season develops. Winona was disciplined and played a physical match. I was particularly pleased that our girls calmly adjusted and played to their potential.
“Our defenders deserve a shoutout,” Yarborough added. “Center backs Karlene Deng and Destiny Van led the way eliminating threats in our defensive third, and goalkeeper Camille Newman preserved the clean sheet with two saves.”
