STARKVILLE — Another Mississippi State player is reportedly on the move.
Matt Zenitz of AL.com reported Thursday afternoon that sophomore receiver Powers Warren has entered the transfer portal. Should Warren leave, he would become the 18th player to depart the program in some fashion or another since Mike Leach took over as head coach in January.
The son of Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren, the Minnesota native appeared in six games during his Bulldog career but did not record any statistics.
A source with knowledge of the situation told The Dispatch that Warren had been dealing with an injury and had not been available since MSU’s game against Kentucky on Oct. 10.
While MSU continues to grapple with COVID-19-related issues, Warren was not expected to be available for Saturday’s game at No. 13 Georgia.
That said, the Bulldogs were barely above the Southeastern Conference-instituted 53-scholarship-player threshold during their win over Vanderbilt two weeks ago.
Following the victory over the Commodores, MSU fell below that threshold, forcing its game against No. 23 Auburn to be moved to Dec. 12. It’s unclear where MSU’s scholarship count stands at present, but the Bulldogs could be precariously close to the limit ahead of Saturday.
